Shalom House of Prayer hosted a special fundraiser long lunch last weekend. The menu celebrated the culinary fusion of French and Vietnamese cuisine. Chefs John Hansen and Geoff Wills served us four courses with two different plates for each course . Words like ‘divine, exquisite, and heavenly’ were heard around the room . As well as one Fan-tas-tic , like Jean-Christophe off MasterChef . The wine flowed, the courses kept coming, and the French music played behind the chatter at the tables . Thank you to our chefs Geoff & John , our helpers Kim , Gab, and Lana, and everyone that supports Shalom. We couldn’t keep it operating without everyone’s help and support. Our prayer weekend was very special. It was called Freedom and Rest, and it certainly lived up to its title. Lesley and her two lovely daughters, Emma and Kate, led us through the reflections. Their talks were inspiring, and the songs uplifting. Thank you to everyone who donated with flowers, baked cheesecake, pumpkin soup, cakes, and slices. We had a lovely weekend at the start of May for the first gardening and working bee of the year. The weather was perfect. We fixed doors, rehung shower curtain rails, replaced faulty light switches with new ones and installed extra power points. Of course, we also did a lot of gardening. We burnt truckloads of spiky Banya pine branches, sprayed weeds and trimmed hedges. All the paths were swept and weeds pulled. Lana and Maryna’s backyard was cleared of metres of periwinkle and the raised bed weeded ready for Maryna to plant some vegetables. Little Joseph is enjoying his bigger yard and a clothesline was installed. Overall, it was a very productive weekend. There’s something truly soul-rewarding about working together for a common cause and the drinks around the fire pit at night were a bonus.
